Recently I had the pleasure of interviewing Brittany Bergquist, co-founder of Cell Phones for Soldiers. In 2004, when Brittany was just 13 years old, she heard a newscast about a family, whose son was deployed to Iraq, that received an $8,000 phone bill for their son’s calls home. Seeing an injustice, Brittany was compelled to action and alongside her 12 year old brother, they began collecting used cell phones to donate back to cellular phone companies for money to pay off this families phone bill. Not only did they pay off their phone bill, but 7 years later, Cell Phones for Soldiers has raised over $8 million and donated over 114,ooo,ooo minutes (yes, 114 million minutes!) of talk time for soldiers to stay connected to their loved ones while deployed! Today, Cell Phones for Soldiers is dedicated to raising funds, through donation of used cell phones and monetary donations, to buy pre-paid phone cards to send to soldiers – no one should be without the connection of their loved ones while defending our freedom.
Speaking with Brittany was the catalyst to get-in-gear and give back; Clean Up & Give Back was born!
Step 1: Donate
Fall into the season by cleaning out your closet and donating your gently worn, but oh so fabulous, garments, shoes, handbags, and accessories to be auctioned off for a good cause, Cell Phones for Soldiers.
All donations need to be collected by October 5th. In the DC area? Contact INFO@HerExchange.com to schedule a pick-up that is convenient for you.

Step 2: Shop
All donated items will be on-sale for a one-day BLOW OUT FASHION SALE, October 9th 12:00-5:00 at Parish Gallery, 1054 31st NW, Washington DC 20007 (Georgetown).
Celebrity gowns, Prada’s and MORE will be available as silent auction items…including the GRAND PRIZE, 7-night accommodations (double occupancy) for up to 2 rooms (value $2,100 – $5,540) at your choice of one of the three listed resorts – hot!!
